Carine McCandless- Chris's younger sister by 3 years. She was very close to him. Her and Chris learned to count on each other when their mom and dad wern't getting along. She was almost exactly like Chris, they could pull off as being twins. She had a dog named Buck that Chris absolutly loved. She's energetic and self assured, a high achiever and quick to state opinion. She's always crying because she misses Chris alot. She's much more gregarious than Chris. She's always working at her job. Carine made peace with her parents shortly after Chris's disappearence. She has a very nice house, lots of money and has a good job.
Loren Johnson- Billie's father. He worked as a truck driver but never held any job for long. He didn't fit into society. He was poud and stubburn and dreamy. Loren was a woodsman, a self-taught musician, a writter of poetry and loved animals. He loved Chris and Chris loved him.
Samuel Walter McCandless Jr.- Chris's father that is 56 years old. He use to spend a lot of time with Chris but then he worked alot so he couldnt spend as much time with him. He was NASA's project manager. Walt had a first marriage with his wife Marcia but then seperated and found a woman named Billie. They had a son together named Chris and then 3 years later a daughter named Carine. After Chris's birth he continued his relationship with his wife in secret, dividing his time between the two households and two families. Lies were told and exposed but then finalized the divorce and legalised the marriage with Billie and that is why Chris left.
Billie McCandless- Chris's mother that never did anything wrong to deserve Chris's leaving. She was very loving and caring towards her children.
Eric Hathaway- a friend on Chris's team. Chris wanted him to go to South Africa with him. He went downtown with Chris and talked to pimps and hookers and low lifes. Ath the end of the evening Chris asked how much money he had and Chris told him that he'd pay for the food if Eric would pay for the gas. They drove around giving food to the people living on the streets.
Kirs Maxie Gillmer- a black female teammate who was perhaps Chris's closest friend at Woodson. She said that Chris took things very seriously. They always hungout during snack break at his locker and talked about life, the state of the world,and serious things.
